SAN DIEGO – Jan. 13, 2016 – To help local students pursue their dreams of higher education and give back to their communities, The Ronald McDonald House Charities®/Hispanic Commitment to Education Resources (HACER®) scholarship program, supported by McDonald’s owner/operators, is accepting applications from San Diego County high school students of Hispanic descent through March 18.

High school seniors who have at least one parent of Hispanic/Latino origin, and who have strong academic performance and a personal drive to give back to the community are invited to submit applications for a one-time $2,000 scholarship. A panel of local educational leaders and RMHC®/HACER program members will select 15 students to receive scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year. Please see the full application for all eligibility requirements.

“San Diego County McDonald’s supports this scholarship because we believe in giving back to the community,” said Christian Sandoval, San Diego RMHC/HACER scholarship program chair. “The RMHC/HACER scholarship is given to deserving students who stand out academically and mirror our belief in strengthening the community. We feel confident they’ll pay it forward and spread opportunity to others.”

The program, supported by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California, Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego, the McDonald’s Operators’ Association of Southern California, and the McDonald’s Operators’ Association of San Diego, has supported hundreds of San Diego County high school students on their path to achieve a higher education. The national RMHC/ HACER scholarship program began in 1985 and since then more than $24 million in scholarships have been awarded.
